OK, so i just decided after 11 years, not to renew my MobileMe account (talk to me here-not sure if I really want to lose that email address). The canceling part was easy, just make the decision and delete your credit card information before the renewal date.

Now the hard part – getting all of my email, contacts, bookmarks and calendars to sync with all of my devices. Currently, I have 1 MacPro, 1 MacMini, 2 MacBook Pros, 2 Dell laptops, 2 iPhones, 2 iPods and 1 iPad – so you can see the need to have everything “synched-up.” I have been achieving this using the MobileMe account – with the exception of the Dells – I’ve had no way to keep them synched.

GoogleApps to the rescue. And the best part? It’s free. Well, for the most part. If you have more than 10 users in your organization you will have to pay like $5 a month. I spent like 5 hours yesterday getting it set-up. Now I have all of my calendars, contacts, email, to-do list synching with everything. And I do mean everything. So if my wife is sitting at her office and changes a contact on her computer – I see the change almost instantaneously. Same deal with the multiple calendars we keep track of.

I also ported all of my clarkmediaservices.com email accounts over to the service. It works fantastic. The best part about this is the free iMap feature – if you read the email on your iPhone, it shows up as being read on ALL of your devices – and, your replies show up on every device as well. As an added bonus, ALL of your email is stored safely and securely in the Google Cloud – even the ones you choose to to delete from your computer can be recovered.

Now you might be saying “MobileMe does most of that anyway – why switch?” Because I’m a technology freak.

Anyway, let us know if we can help you get all of your “gadgets” working together. I love putting puzzles together.

We’ve been hearing what can only be described as an alarm going off down in the woods for the past month. We live in Macon, Georgia, just above the nat line, and just below the cicada line evidently. You walk outside now and it sounds like something is missing. Never thought I would miss the little buggers. Guess I’ll have to wait another 13 years for them to arrive again.

In case you did not get to hear or see them, hear they are.
